Heathrow Strike to Cause Chaos

A strike by UK public sector workers next Wednesday is set to cause chaos at Heathrow and other airports as border control union workers join the strike, the first time they have taken such action in the 28 year history of the Union. BAA who operates Heathrow and other major airports in the UK warns that immigration waiting times may stretch to 12 hours due to the under staffing, and Virgin Atlantic has offered free re-booking of flights for that day in an attempt to ease the congestion. It’s thought that the number of travellers through Heathrow Airport will need to be cut by half in order for the system to function effectively. Passengers may have to wait on planes on the tarmac to avoid safety concerns in the terminals. This promises to be one of the most challenging days in Heathrow’s history and travellers are advised to avoid travelling on that day if at all possible.
