Also known as the Western Isles, the Outer Hebrides boasts a 130 mile stretch and to the Western side is the Atlantic Ocean. The Northernmost island in the Hebrides is Lewis & Harris – commonly thought of as two separate islands as each has its own distinctive culture, heritage and traditions.
To the south sit a string of flatter islands including Barra, South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist. Barra serves as a landing strip for flights from the mainland whilst all islands have an essence of breezy beaches and very fine sands. The Hebrides’ natural environment makes it an ideal location for both cycling and walking; for the more daring, surfers from around the globe are drawn to its superb Atlantic beaches. Fishing for the highest quality of trout and salmon is also very popular due to the clear and pollution-free Hebridean waters.
