It is an interesting move according to the Car Hire Edinburgh Airport branch for the next Fringe Festival.
For the first time, St Andrews Square in Edinburgh will be transformed into a major Fringe venue to coincide with the arrival of the trams. There will be three separate performance areas created, to house up to thirty shows in the square, which is home to Jenners and Harvey Nichols.
It will also have the one of the Fringe’s most popular venues, the famous Spiegeltent, with the site expected to stay open until midnight. The transformation of the complete length of George Street has meant that the bars and restaurants have been able to increase their pavement café areas.
There is a year long pilot to reduce traffic levels on George Street and hand over more space to pedestrians when the trams finally begin.
