Ask The Expert – Skoda Rapid V Skoda Superb

“Some say she has driven over 50 types of car and can parallel park a Jaguar XJL. Others say she can strap in three children at once without even breaking a sweat… All we know is she’s The Expert.”

Legend

We put our world-wise driver (She’s not quite The Stig, but she knows her stuff) to the test and asked her to compare the latest editions to our fleet. Which will come out on top, the Superb or the Rapid? Read on below…

They’re not just adjectives for super sporty cars, they’re two of the newest and best models from the increasingly popular SKODA range. Easirent have added the smart, compact 5-door Rapid to our fleet as a way of introducing another reliable yet comfortable car for our long-term hirers.

With space for up to five occupants and class leading passenger head and knee room, the ŠKODA Rapid offers incredible comfort for you and the whole family on even the longest of road trips. Designed with a suitcase swallowing 550 litres of boot space with the back seats up and when the back seats are folded down that number more than doubles to a cavernous 1,490 litres. With the ŠKODA Rapid nothing’s going to get left behind. It also comes with a proven array of safety features and whilst you may never need them, you can rest assured that if you’re ever in a difficult driving situation, you can rely on the ŠKODA Rapid. ABS braking and Electronic Stability Control, front, side and curtain airbags are all standard across the whole range.

After driving the Skoda Rapid, I couldn’t help commenting on all the handy little features I found. The armrest in the back seats, for example – perfect for the kids snacks and the little rubbish bin in the driver’s door, really helps keep the inside tidy. Thoughtful things like the hidden umbrella in the door and the ice-scraper in the fuel cap would make this car a really lovely companion over the years. The Superb however, comes with some much smarter technology. The wave-your-foot-under-the-boot-to-open feature being one of the most handy things i’ve ever seen on a car in my life. Especially when your hands are full as a parent!

Every inch of the Superb has been designed with powerful, dramatic lines, a clean spacious interior and razor-sharp headlights. So not only is it a pleasure to drive, it looks great too. I felt instantly cooler pulling up to the school gates in the Skoda Superb, due to it’s design and look. It was the best equipped luxury family car I’d driven so far and the interior technology wasn’t hard to get to grips with.

Both models feature DAB radio incorporating Bluetooth phone connectivity and a five-inch colour touchscreen, as well as dual zone air-conditioning, remote-control central locking, height adjustable front seats, 16-inch alloy wheels and front and rear electric windows.

The Superb has the largest interior space in its class so our passengers could travel in comfort. During the times I was a passenger, I truly felt comfortable in the huge, cool temperature cabin. The boot space is much larger than the Rapid’s coming in at 625/1760 litres with and without the seats down. Fitting your luggage, pushchair or (if you’re lucky) golf clubs in is a breeze.

So for comfort and practicality, i’d definitely recommend hiring the Rapid because it’s spacious, it’s great to drive and it comes with a load of useful features for every day family life. But for style and something a little smoother, it’s got to be the Superb with its’ higher class technology and more interesting design.
