What a massive milestone achieved and congratulations from the Car Hire Birmingham Airport branch who are a car hire provider to the airport.
Early this July Birmingham Airport is set to welcome its 200 millionth passenger, as part of its 75th Birthday. It was opened on July 8th 1939 by HRH The Duchess of Kent. Although now twice its original size, the new terminal opened in 1984 by the Queen remains the hub for Birmingham Airports operations, with more than 9 million passengers a year passing through the facility.
Commenting on the milestone airport chief executive Paul Kehoe, said “Birmingham Airport has played an important role in the success of the region for 75 years. It was built with the aim of creating jobs and stimulating industry; and that it has certainly done. Back in the early years, only the privileged could enjoy the luxury of flying but as it became more accessible to the masses, more and more people took to the skies from Birmingham to experience the wonder of air travel and seek new adventures overseas.”
A celebratory logo has been launched to mark the 75th year milestone. Birmingham Airport currently serves 143 direct scheduled and charter routes, with a possible 279 additional connections worldwide.
