There was reason to celebrate at Car Hire Birmingham Airport after the win for the Birmingham Bears in the final of crickets modern format of the sport.
Birmingham Bears have won their first T20 title after beating Lancashire by four runs in a thrilling final at Edgbaston. This win means Warwickshire remain on target for a stunning treble this season after they lifted the Twenty20 Cup to the delight of most in a 23,000 capacity crowd at Edgbaston on Saturday night.
Laurie Evans was a key performer, guiding the Birmingham Bears, which is Warwickshire’s short-form alter-ego, to an imposing 181 for five with a fine 53, while Chris Woakes, Boyd Rankin and Oliver Hannon-Dalby turned in admirable showings with the ball.
Flintoff made a compelling return to the big stage for Lancashire as he took his side to within touching distance with two muscular sixes in the penultimate over but it was not enough to clinch a fairytale ending as the Bears claimed a dramatic victory.
Rikki Clarke chipped in with a run-a-ball 27 but, after Croft conceded just 17 from his fours overs, Warwickshire needed late impetus. Evans provided it. Four times he cleared the ropes, once off James Anderson to further bruise the England man’s figures which were already suffering after the early work of Chopra.
Six were needed from the last ball with tail-ender Stephen Parry to face. A scuffed single set off the celebratory fireworks while the crowd exploded in jubilation.
