Birmingham boss looking to inject extra pace in squad for new season

The staff at the Car Hire Birmingham Airport branch who support the Blues, will be pleased there is plenty of transfer activity at the club, even with the money issues.

Lee Clark is looking for certain attributes for his squad next season which have currently been lacking. More pace, power and strength are what Clark is on the look out for to give the attack more of a threat. Plus Matt Green has been tipped to come back strong after a long-term knee injury.

Forward Wes Thomas has already been recruited, plus Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson is understood to be close to signing on a Bosman free.

Clark said, “It’s been part of our recruitment drive for next season, to get more pace at the top end of the pitch. We want to be more of a threat in terms of players who will cause defenders problems with those attributes of pace, power. Wes Thomas fits that bill. He is a very hard worker and won’t give defenders a moment’s peace. And he has that kind of pace that defenders are frightened of and don’t like. Matt Green, we know, is very quick and athletic too. Lee Novak is a different type of player to those two, although he has got a decent change of pace as well. So we have got a good combination up front, different options, with the players here now. And hopefully we can get another striker in to complement them as well.”

There have currently been six new signings with Clark wanting up to ten new players to replace those that have had to leave, due to financial problems. Another player on the radar is Aaron Wilbraham, who was released by Crystal Palace.
