Birmingham is gearing up for its annual Frankfurt Christmas market, with more than 180 stalls making it the largest outdoor Christmas market in the UK. Thousands of visitors are expected in Birmingham between November 12 and 22 December, when it closes its doors for Christmas, from all over the UK and Europe.
You’ll find numerous authentic food and drinks stalls on your visit to Birmingham, sitting alongside a large local crafts market. The smell of pretzels, schnitzels and bratwursts mingles with a variety of locally-made food and drink; gifts from around the world will be on sale, as well as a range of hand-crafted local goods, including decorative ironwork, wood carvings, handbags, toys, musical instruments and organic soaps and cosmetics. An outdoor ice skating rink in front of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Broad Street completes the Christmas theme, running until January 4 2016.
The Birmingham Christmas market is centred around Victoria Square, in front of the Council House, and stretches down to the Rotunda. You’ll find the Craft Market in Chamberlain Square, in front of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, stretching through to Centenary Square, which houses the Library of Birmingham. Easirent car drivers can use car parks at the Town Hall, Paradise Circus, NIA, Snow Hill, Markets or Dudley Street to park their hire cars, or choose one of a number of hotels in the area and enjoy a long weekend.
Birmingham Airport is just 5.5 miles south east of the city centre, adjacent to the National Exhibition Centre. The airport is well connected to the city for drivers, via the A45 and M42 motorway.
