The Car Hire Birmingham Airport branch like the new initiative which has started in the city, helping the young unemployed find work.
The young unemployed in Birmingham are being urged to sign up to a new charity programme called ‘Street League’ which uses football to help them get into work.
Street League is a national charity mixing football and employability skills, and the first Academy in Birmingham is kicked off at The Doug Ellis Sports Centre in Perry Barr. The Academy programme runs for 10 weeks with participants involved in two hours of football sessions followed by two hours of classroom-based activities every day from Monday to Thursday. They also receive advice and support on how to get a job and will earn nationally recognised qualifications including skills in Maths and English.
Living in supported housing and without any close family or friends nearby, one of the participants Daniel, has attended every Street Football session in the build-up to the Academy, and was rewarded for his efforts by receiving tickets to see Aston Villa play Manchester City. The tickets were donated by Barclays, who are funding the new Academy.
