Monday 16th of November 2015
Blackburn Festival of Light 2015 will open with their Annual Lantern Parade with a festive seasonal theme. The Annual Lantern Parade is organised for 10th December and comes with a huge celebration of fireworks and the illumination of the town’s most famous historic buildings. The traditional edge of the event is also kept alive with a carol concert at Blackburn Cathedral to conclude the event.
Some of Blackburn’s most famous heritage sites will be lit up and enjoyed in technicolour. The Victoria Building at Blackburn College will be illuminated in a dramatic display of light and then the lantern parade begins, with a firework display and a flame and fire show organised.
Everything begins at 4.30pm with a display of lanterns in the St. Paul’s Gardens and Blackburn College and then the procession will head down through the centre of Blackburn, via King William Street and Blakey Moor. Flame and fire show performers will be displaying their skills outside the Town Hall Square and the Blackburn Christmas Markets on Church Street (a new addition for 2015) will also be ready and waiting for visitors. At 6.45 the fireworks display is planned for the grounds of Blackburn Cathedral and then the Lancashire Telegraph Christmas Carol Concert begins within the Cathedral, with free admission and performers from the local schools in the area as well as the Salvation Army Band.
Blackburn’s Festival of Light has been organised to incorporate a number of events including the Christmas Lights Show and more events throughout the Christmas period.
