The Great Bupa Edinburgh Run attracted over 5000 runners, with a new ten-mile route created for those who took part at the weekend. Many ran for charity, with Chris Thompson and Susan Partridge bringing home the Gold’s in the men’s and women’s elite races, which used to be a five or ten kilometre race.
A Bupa spokesperson said “We are very proud to support such a fantastic event and are pleased that so many people took part. We would like to say thank you and well done to all of the runners and supporters.”
The runners were also entertained by a fifty-piece rock choir, a student band, Capital FM street stars stage, the all-female drumming band ‘Sheboom’ and bagpipers from George Herit’s School at each of the mile markers. Rock Choir leader in Edinburgh, Elaine Williamson, said “We sang from around 9am until the last runner came past at about 10.45am. It was really good fun and just being able to do something to life the spirits of the people was great.”
