It is refreshing to read that a number of people have got together to create a piece of art that will benefit those who walk under the tunnel, with Car Hire Crawley thinking it looks fantastic.
A tunnel linking Maidenbower and Furnace Green in Crawley has received a makeover from some creative students. Art enthusiastic pupils from Oriel High and Maidenbower Juniors unveiled a canvas of their depiction of futuristic travel.
There were near 120 pupils from the two schools, who spent some fifty hours in lessons and after school clubs creating the 16-foot by 4-foot masterpiece. Construction work has been underway to widen the path of the underpass, with the art piece being installed outside to receive full exposure. The canvas has been varnished and protected against graffiti, to retain it for years to come.
Katie Jordan, community development coordinator at OrielHigh School said, “The tunnel is a major access route to schools in Maidenbower and Furnace Green as well being a public pathway. When the construction work began we wanted to contribute towards making it eye-catching. The inspiration for the project came from the artist David Hockney who we have been learning about.”
