It is a big debate in the Cornwall area as to if there is going to be a flight to the capital from next year. Car Hire Gatwick Airport bring the latest and would like a positive outcome if one can be found.
There are talks continuing between the airlines and Cornwall Council aimed at keeping alive the route with Gatwick Airport and Newquay which is to be scrapped by Flybe next year. With Easyjet and other companies announcing that they would not take on the link with insufficient demand given as a reason. This would leave Newquay without a flight to the capital and could have a negative effect on business in the area.
Newquay and St Austell MP Stephen Gilbert pledged to speak to ministers in a bid to change easyJet’s mind. He said: “I will be meeting with ministers to see what additional support the Government can provide in the hope that this may change the commercial decision that easyJet have made.”
Adam Paynter, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet member for partnerships, said last week: “We remain in discussions with a number of other airlines to maintain this vital link. As part of these continuing discussions we will also be seeking the support of Cornwall’s six MPs and the Government to explore all options.”
