The Car Hire Manchester Airport team are not shocked at the top destination in and out of the airport.
Analysis of all UK air traffic for the first nine months of the year has shown 596,028 passengers have flown between Manchester Airport and Dubai, up 21,901 on the same period last year. This means Dubai has replaced Palma as the most popular international destination for travellers from Manchester Airport.
Tenerife is third; while Dublin has raised two places to fourth after passenger numbers rose by 24.2 per cent to 554,074. Amsterdam is down one place in fifth, while Alicante is sixth, Malaga seventh, Dalaman eighth, Paris ninth, and Faro tenth.
Neil Robinson, tourism and business lecturer at the University of Salford said “I think Dubai has become a lot more accessible. Whereas a few years ago it was harder to get to, there are now daily flights from Manchester to this exclusive romantic desert kingdom. It’s relatively close, a seven-hour journey with no need to change.”
Ken O’Toole, chief commercial officer for Manchester Airport Group, said “Dubai’s continuing rise shows the popularity of the three daily services and is also symptomatic of the ongoing strength of the long haul market here at Manchester Airport. The afternoon Emirates A380 service continues to be popular with passengers, while an increase in tourism activity in the United Arab Emirates is continuing to draw passengers from the North of England to the warmer climate in the Middle East.”
