Dublin Airport has announced that is has already broken its record for the number of passengers to pass through its doors in a single year. The news was announced on 4 December as the airport prepares for its December traffic to start pouring through its terminals in the run up to the festive season.
This year alone Dublin Airport has seen in excess of 23.5 million passengers come through its doors, beating the airport’s previous record of 23.46 million passengers, which was set back in 2008.
The reason behind Dublin Airport’s record breaking passenger numbers is due to the airport’s 23 new routes and significant added capacity aboard its flights.
Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport’s managing director commented on the airport’s success:
“Dublin Airport is having a record year for passenger numbers due to strong growth across all major sectors of the market.
“Passenger numbers are up 16% so far this year, with record numbers of people travelling to and from Dublin on European, UK, transatlantic and other international routes. “We have already welcomed more than 3.1 million extra passengers this year and we still have most of December to come.
“The new routes and extra capacity contributed to a very strong summer period, as more than 5.3 million passengers used Dublin Airport during July and August, which is our busiest time of the year.”
