You can collect your hire car from our Easirent Luton Airport branch which is located at:
LUTON AIRPARKS, Grove Road, Slip End, Luton, LU1 4BZ
We have a range of vehicles to suit your needs including huge family-size cars and SUVs for muddy days. If you’ve got lots of luggage or perhaps more than one pushchair, consider our estate vehicles to fit everything in comfortably without having to sacrifice leg room? If you’ve a party of 5 or more with you then we also hire out 7, 9 and 12-seater vehicles. Perfect for those group trips to the zoo. See the full range here.
Once you’ve got your car sorted, the zoo is only a 15-minute trip down the road from our Easirent Luton branch. Come out of the Airparks and turn right onto the B4540 where you’ll stay for 1.7 miles. At the end of this road, you’ll join up with the A5 where you turn right following signs for Dunstable. Stay on the A5 until you see the Texaco garage and it’s the next left turning. Follow this road all the way until the end and you’ll arrive at Whipsnade Zoo! Use the postcode LU6 2LF if you’re using a GPS or Navigation system.
The Zoo itself opens at 10 am and from the word go there are activities every hour for all audiences. Starting with the ‘Lemur Breakfast’ at 10.30am you can watch the beautiful ring-tailed lemurs as they enjoy their first meal of the day. ‘Birds of the World’ begins at 11:15 as hawks, owls and macaws swoop above your head in this amazing free-flying bird show. Quickly followed by ‘African Hunting Dog Talks’ at 11:30 and the impressive ‘Beautiful Butterflies’ at Midday in the Butterfly House. Other exciting talks include Flamingos, Giraffes, Elephants, Squirrel Monkeys (yes that’s one animal), and Crocodiles!
All of the aforementioned activities are included in the price of your ticket but if you want to pay a bit extra and make your day even more special, you can purchase a ‘Keeper Day’ ticket which allows the user to be a Zoo Keeper for the day! “At ZSL Whipsnade Zoo you can expect to work with some of the larger mammals as well as some of our smaller animals. After getting kitted out in your keeper outfit you will be briefed on the days’ activities before heading out to the zoo with your experienced keeper host. After helping to muck out our Asian Rhinos, you will head to visit our tall giraffes to feed them their mid-morning snack. After recharging over lunch and stopping off at our meerkats or otters, you will end the day with our majestic Asian Elephants.” Sound good? Head over to the Whipsnade Zoo website to book.
There’s also a fun train ride you can take across the park, the Jumbo Express. Take a ride on one of two impressive steam engines, Excelsior and Superior, as they weave their way through the territories of some of the world’s most inspiring animals.
Elephants, rhinos, yaks and camels are just some of the mammals you can expect to see on your journey in the Jumbo Express. With an exciting commentary, Whipsnade will take you on a safari adventure you will never forget. Asked why people love the trains so much, driver and engineer Kevin Edwins said: “It’s the sheer magic of a steam-hauled railway. People love to hear the whistle and see the smoke – very few zoos have them.”
