Car Hire Luton Airport want to take the positive aspect of the proposed expansion as it would mean more potential car hire bookings for the branch.
If Luton Airport has its expansion plans granted by the government, airline Easyjet said it would create 2,500 jobs and more than double its presence at the airport, wanting to increase its passengers from four million to nine million a year and have further destinations.
The chief executive of Easyjet Carolyn McCall highlighted the plans were dependent on improvements to Luton Airport. At the end of 2013 Luton Borough Council approved the increase in passenger number from 10 million to 18 million a year, but it is currently in the hands of Communities Secretary Eric Pickles for review.
While it seems the creation of jobs would be a good point for the region, there is some opposition. Andrew Lambourne from Hertfordshire Against Luton Expansion, said “Extra jobs, and benefits to passengers, have to be balanced by effective actions to reverse the increasing noise trend at Luton Airport. Noise is a form of pollution, and businesses which create noise need to invest in mitigation for its effects, as well as being prepared to constrain the hours during which noise is made. These are not unreasonable demands and we look forward to some specific proposals from Easyjet to balance its announcement.”
