Car Hire Edinburgh Airport are making anybody who live near the airport of the changes in flight path for the next few weeks, for some runway work.
Edinburgh Airport is warning residents close to the airport there will be increased aircraft noise while the regular flight path is temporarily changed as work is to be carried out on the main runway over the next three weekends between 11pm and 5.30am.
The work is being carried out to maintain the safe operation of the main runway, with only a small number of flights operating during the work. Areas which will be affected during this time include Bonnyrigg, Loanhead, Fairmilehead, Colinton, Sighthill, South Gyle, Oxgangs, Kirkliston and Bo’ness.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport’s chief executive, said “Our runway is subjected to very heavy loads and forces and can degrade over time. This work will involve resurfacing a number of areas on the runway, particularly at the aircraft touchdown zones. As we will be operating a different take-off and landing route some areas around Edinburgh may experience an increased level of aircraft noise between the hours of runway maintenance. Although this runway maintenance work may cause some minimal inconvenience in the short term, it is essential that we continue to invest in and improve our facilities.”
The Scottish airport has had a 4.9% rise in passenger numbers for March, with more than 730,000 passengers travelling through.
