The News of a record September is great news for Car Hire Edinburgh Airport as it has kept demand for hire cars up, coming out of the summer season.
Competition has been intensified as Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest claimed it was the country’s airport of choice. This was announced after a record September of an increase of 9% on passenger numbers compared to last year.
Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said, “It had enjoyed massive growth over its busiest-ever summer, with monthly passengers reaching one million for the first time in July. We’ve clearly been the airport of choice and this is a great validation for Edinburgh airport and the city as a whole.”
Edinburgh Airport is growing at a similar rate to its nearest rival, GlasgowAirport and it has been suggested by leading travel pundit Simon Calder that they are fighting for every new route on offer. Edinburgh Airport won a new route to Toronto earlier this year and complimented by a link to Chicago. Although it is still to secure a long sought Middle Eastern link.
Glasgow airport managing director Amanda McMillan said: “It is very encouraging to be able to follow what was our best summer in five years with further passenger growth in September. There were a number of events within Glasgow during September, including the Liberal Democrats’ autumn conference, which contributed to a strong demand for domestic services, and with the SSE Hydro now open, the city can look forward to attracting even more large-scale events.”
