Edinburgh Economy boosted by Medical Sector Conferences

Car Hire Edinburgh Airport are pleased their economy is going out of its way to secure extra income with the positive marketing of the city.

The economy in Edinburgh is being given an extra financial boost because of the hard work of the Marketing Edinburgh’s Convention Bureau (MECB). They have managed to secure 151 events for the city in the last year, including getting conferences in the medical sector to house its events in the city. This is estimated to bring in £90.1 million for the Edinburgh Economy.

Head of MECB Lesley Williams said, “These excellent results underline the importance of business tourism to the economy. As a centre of excellence in life sciences and new technologies, famed for its beauty and vibrancy, Edinburgh has always been a popular host city for conferences and events.”

It has been a strong year as the Bureau has smashed its record-breaking results for last year, generating more than £16.1 million. Some of the high profile conferences confirmed includes the 5th International Hypothermia Symposium in September.

Williams added, “A £110m investment in recent years in the capital’s game-changing facilities, such as the expansion at the EICC, the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa and The Assembly Rooms, means that we are better placed than ever before to succeed in this competitive international marketplace. We’re proud to offer delegates a world-class experience.”
