It’s that time of year again, when thousands of people from all corners of the globe flock to Edinburgh to celebrate the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival – the largest arts festival in the world. Visitors to the event can expect comedy, live music, food, drink and drama by the bucket load.
One of the stand out performances at this year’s festival is the critically acclaimed Janis Joplin: Full Tilt. This production, which is taking up residence in The Queen’s Hall from 24th – 30th August, has been put together by the multi award winning writer/ director team of Peter Arnott and Cora Bissett.
After having been a sell-out sensation at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Janis Joplin: Full Tilt clinched the title of Best Play, from the Scottish Arts Club, along with the Best Female Musical Performance for the show’s star Angela Darcy, who delivers an intense and stunning performance of Janis Joplin.
Coining its name from Joplin’s backing band the Full Tilt Boogie Band, the play follows the life of the gravelly voiced singer/ songwriter, who rose to fame in America in the late 1960s with her psychadelic/ acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, through to her tragic death at the young age of 27.
Rated five stars by The Scotsman and reviewed by The Telegraph as being ‘superb’ and ‘much more than just a tribute act’, tickets for Janis Joplin: Full Tilt can be purchased online and its running time is approximately one hour and ten minutes.
