Edinburgh Zoo keeping close eye on the Panda Couple

Will it happen this time? This is what Car Hire Edinburgh Airport staff are discussing and hope it will be a positive outcome for the panda’s at the zoo.

Daily monitoring at Edinburgh Zoo is under way on the Panda’s as the mating season is just around the corner. The hope is a cub will be produced this year after no joy last year.

Iain Valentine from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which runs the zoo, said “Tian Tian and Yang Guang are both in great health and condition and things are progressing nicely. The giant pandas are clearly showing an increased interest in one another, both pandas are fairly regularly scent marking now and we’ve also seen food intake increase in both pandas as they seek to drive their body weight up – all fantastic instinctive pre-breeding behaviours.”

Tian Tian the female panda has only a two or three day window to get pregnant which is why the daily monitoring of her hormones has started.
