From 7th November the Discovery Museum in Newcastle city centre is home to a fantastic festive exhibit, looking at the famous Fenwick Newcastle at Christmastime and the history of the famous department store’s memorable Christmas displays. As the flagship Fenwick store, opened in 1882, there is a lot of history behind this Newcastle icon and the magical displays that it brings each Christmas.
The Discovery Museum plays host to a two month-long exhibition which shows off all the best memories and interesting facts about Fenwick Newcastle at Christmas. Discover how the magic of Christmas has been created year on year at Fenwick and find out everything from which toys have been the most popular over the years to what goes on behind the scenes when creating the famous Christmas window. It’s a fantastic trip down memory lane with lots of nostalgia as well as plenty from before any of us can remember.
It all kicks off with a launch day on 7th November, packed full of activities at the museum. Santa Claus will be visiting and wandering amongst the guests, ready to meet and greet anybody who wants to say hello and there will also be some reindeer stopping by so you can learn all about their habitat and their favourite foods. There will also be reindeer food for sale so you can have a go at feeding them yourself.
Fenwick is a real cultural institution, both in Newcastle and across the UK and their Christmas displays are amongst the finest you’ll find. If you’re visiting the city to pop into the department store and check out the Christmas window then don’t forget to stop by the exhibition too. Both are centrally located in Newcastle so easy to access and visit from the airport in your Easirent hire car.
