Monday 10th of August 2015
The world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival is underway for 2015, and will continue across the city throughout the entire month of August. The event is unparalleled in its stature, and every year hosts the best comedians on the planet, who take over venues of all shapes and sizes across the city. Whilst the Fringe is chiefly known as being 7th heaven for stand-up comedy fans from around the world, the festival also features a staggering amount of theatre, visual arts, and street performers. The only problem you might have is prioritising which shows you want to see the most, from a listings programme longer than most paperback novels. Highlights for the 2015 event include hotly-tipped newcomers such as Daniel Sloss and Kai Humphries, to Fringe veterans such as the politically-charged Mark Thomas. A great number of the events are free, with optional donations welcome.
The Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival, with the 2014 event spanning featuring over 3,193 shows from 51 countries in 299 venues. It is widely-regarded as a rite of passage for any comedian plying their trade, and has been the launching pad for many a successful comedy career, such as arena packing artists Lee Evans and John Bishop. It truly is the nucleus of the comedy world, and you’re likely to find yourself bumping into a big name or two on your travels.
