The staff at Car Hire Gatwick Airport think it is a bold statement by the top boss at the airport in relation to the expansion plans of Britain’s airports.
The Chief executive of Gatwick Airport, Stuart Wingate believes London could have a new runway sooner and cheaper, if the British government chooses Gatwick over Heathrow. Wingate said “If chosen and with swift decision making we are committing today to start work on site in the next parliament.”
Lawmakers and business leaders agree that Britain is in need of new runways to assist in it remaining economically competitive, but building more capacity around London which is already heavily populated is unpopular with voters. Gatwick Airport could have a new runway operational by 2025, a year earlier than Heathrow’s plan.
Howard Davies, the former head of the Financial Services Authority is leading a government commission on the runway issue, with a final proposal due in the summer of 2015.
