It is a very strong claim by bosses at the airport according to staff who work at the Gatwick Airport Easirent Car Hire branch. They would love to believe the outburst but think there will be an issue at some point during the penned improvements.
The senior transport advisor at Gatwick Airport Hugh Sumner has claimed the airport can be road and rail ready for a second runway by 2021. The planned improvements include a train to central London every 2 ½ minutes by 2019, rail capacity doubled by 2020, new Gatwick Express trains by 2016 and upgrades to the M25 and M23.
Gatwick Airport wants to be connected directly to 175 mainline stations by 2020 and 1,000 with a single change. Both Gatwick Airport and Heathrow are trying to build an extra runway, upon acceptance from the Airports Commission, which is currently considering both proposals, with the announcement after the 2015 General Election.
Mr Sumner said, “Gatwick will be road and rail ready for a second runway by 2021, with no additional cost to the taxpayer. The ease at which these improvements can be delivered adds yet more weight to the case for a new runway at Gatwick.”
