Car Hire Gatwick Airport staff want to try the new hotel opening at the end of March with its technology.
Come the end of the month Gatwick Airport will open their first smart phone operated hotel in its South Terminal. BLOC Gatwick is next to departures and will allow guests to control the doors, lights and TV from their smart phone or tablet. Entrepreneur Rob Morgan created the idea as a stress free alternative for those who need a pre-flight, single-night stop.
Mr Morgan said, “I envisaged guests operating everything in a hotel room through a single device, and what better than a smart phone?” He added, “The development had taken longer than had been anticipated, because of the compliance requirements and security challenges of building at a very busy airport that can suffer from adverse weather conditions on occasions.”
Rooms on the seventh floor will be dedicated to business travellers, providing free Wi-Fi, Sky TV and desks. Guests will step out of the hotel reception and straight into the departure lounge.
BLOC commissioned British firm BoxBuild to develop the system and chose a tablet device as the control centre for each of the 245 rooms. MP for East Surrey, Sam Gyimah visited the hotel last week. Mr Gyimah said, “BLOC Hotels is just the kind of entrepreneurial vision Government policy should support; an innovative concept harnessing the best of modern technology to deliver a unique customer experience.”
