It is great for Gatwick that the Jersey route is being kept on by Easyjet. The Car Hire Gatwick Airport team hope the changes will bring a little more tourism to the area.
The budget airline Easyjet has announced it will run a service from Gatwick Airport to Jersey using its Airbus A319 to fly the three daily return flights, which will be one less than Flybe currently offers. Tickets will be going on sale from September for the service with Easyjet, which begins in March 2014.
Senator Alan Maclean, Economic Development Minister, said: “The airline has the capability of delivering in excess of a quarter of a million passengers per year on the Gatwick route alone, which will be of great benefit to the vitally important tourism and business economy.”
The schedule would allow business travellers to fly in and out on the same day, with some low cost seats being introduced in a bid to boost tourism. Easyjet already operates from Jersey to Liverpool, Glasgow and London Southend, plus a summer service to Newcastle.
