Will the airport be able to help with the relocation of all the businesses if the planned expansion gets a green light? The Easirent Car Hire staff at Gatwick Airport, think they would have to do everything they can to provide support.
The planned expansion at Gatwick Airport would result in the loss of two million square feet of business land. This area covers around 250 premises and bosses of the airport will be meeting with businesses over the next few weeks to work out what would need to be done with regards to relocation and compensation.
CEO Stuart Wingate said, “We will start to work through so we can get a better level of knowledge and understanding as to what the requirements are, what the alternatives are and what can be done. It can be taken as read we must compensate but also look to re-provide or re-accommodate those businesses.”
The first concern for businesses in the area would be where they are going to go, with options being either part of the expanded airport or elsewhere in the borough. Jeremy Taylor, chief executive of Gatwick Diamond Business, said “It is important that the businesses are fully engaged and Stewart’s announcement of a charter and dedicated staff to work with those businesses is very welcome.”
