The Geordie Proms are one of the highlights of the North East events calendar as not only do they bring all the pomp of the proms to Tyne and Wear, they’re also a huge fundraising event which supports to excellent charities – WaterAid and North East Promenaders Against Cancer (NEPAC).
The Geordie Proms takes place on 1st November at the Sage Gateshead and a wide range of both locally known and more widely known talents will be coming together to celebrate and raise funds for the event’s charities.
The Artistic Director for this year’s show is Graeme Danby and he has brought together a mixture of choral tunes, top soloists and young talent from across the region. The BBC’s Jeff Brown and ITV’s Helen Pearson will be compering the event and soloists include Valerie Reid, Rachel Dyson and Bradley Cheswick. A full symphony orchestra will back the soloists and massed choirs will also be present, offering up songs from Carmen, Cavelaria Rusticana and more with the passionate traditional proms finale which is always rousing.
Over 25 years fundraising has included the Geordie Proms with NEPAC dedicated to their cause and any profits from the evening are shared between the two charities. Travelling to Newcastle for the Geordie Proms is bound to be an enjoyable experience and if you’re in the area for other reasons, there is still time to pick up a ticket. The Sage Gateshead is less than 20 minutes’ drive from Newcastle Airport so picking up your hire car and heading down to the venue should pose no problems.
