Good results for airports in Scotland as Glasgow has seen an increase in traffic this summer, with Car Hire Glasgow Airport highlighting that it should continue with the Commonwealth Games arriving next summer.
The busiest summer since 2008 has been seen at Glasgow Airport with 2.4 million passengers in June, July and August. With an increase of 6% for passengers in August compared to last year.
Traffic on the domestic and international front both grew by 6% during August with airlines including Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, KLM and Wizz Air all had seen an boost in demand.
The airport’s managing director, Amanda McMillan, said that 125,000 extra passengers used the airport during the summer. She added: “Not only was it our busiest summer in five years, it was one of our best in terms of operational performance. Despite the significant increase in numbers and a host of large scale events, 99.4% of our passengers passed through security in less than 10 minutes during the summer months.”
A statement pointed out the growth may perhaps be attributed to airlines adding extra capacity and success in promoting the inbound tourism and attracting major events.
