Well the airport may have changed hands, but Ricky at Car Hire Glasgow Airport thinks it will continue to experience growth.
Glasgow Airport has recently been sold to a Spanish and Australian consortium in a £1 Billion sale. The Paisley-based terminal’s owners Heathrow Airport Holdings have agreed to sell it to Madrid-based Ferrovial and Sydney-based Macquarie.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said “Clearly, this is a landmark day for Glasgow Airport and, whilst we will be sorry to leave the Heathrow group, we do so knowing we’re in an extremely strong position. We have benefited from considerable investment in recent years and have achieved a great deal of success in securing new routes and growing passenger numbers.”
The £1bn sale, which is expected to be formally completed by January, also involves the consortium taking ownership of airports in Aberdeen and Southampton.
Councillor Mark Macmillan has welcomed the deal. He said “This will give the airport security of ownership and more certainty for the future. We are very keen to develop the same close working relationship that we enjoyed with the former owners and we hope Ferrovial and Macquarie match our ambition to further develop Glasgow Airport as a crucial transport and economic hub.”
