It is set to be a great time for people in Scotland but Car Hire Glasgow Airport do not want people to pay over the odds on accommodation.
There is concern that hotels in the Glasgow area are putting up their hotel prices ahead of the Commonwealth Games, at a higher rate than what hotels in London did for the Olympic Games in 2012. Some rooms in budget hotels are charging £180 per night during the games, with a two star budget apartment demanding £1,500 for a nights stay.
To try and sort this VisitScotland is seeking to work with local guest houses and hotels to try and stop this massive price hike during the Commonwealth Games. There is even the advice to tell people to look at staying in Edinburgh or Stirling because of the prices. A VisitScotland spokesperson admitted “VisitScotland has no input into or control over tourism business pricing strategies, but we have always strongly advocated a common-sense approach amongst accommodation providers, citing the importance of providing visitors with great hospitality that offers value for money.”
MP for Perth and North Perthshire Pete Wishart, said the Games are “a golden opportunity to showcase Scotland and Glasgow. We want people to enjoy their visit and come back and not be put off by high prices such as these”
There is a number of money saving websites that have suggested looking at Airbnb as a positive option for visitors. The site is still offering private rooms during the games at £25 per night and two bedroom flats at £65 per night.
