Please join in the celebrations is the call from Car Hire Glasgow Airport staff as the Queen’s Baton Relay draws closer.
The Glasgow part of the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games has been announced by officials as it reaches the city just days before the Games. A ticket ballot has also been opened to join the free party at the end of each of the three days leading up to the opening of the Games.
The Queen’s Baton Relay route was launched at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum with the help of local primary school pupils. The route will visit every part of Glasgow, taking in world-famous landmarks and attractions along the route, plus celebrating in every community across the city. The Baton arrives in Scotland on 14th June with up to 4000 baton bearers joining the relay in more than 400 communities.
Glasgow 2014 chief executive, David Grevemberg, said “The Queen’s Baton has been passed by tens of thousands of citizens across the Commonwealth and the last leg of its journey through Scotland is a great opportunity for everyone to be part of the biggest sporting and cultural event in the country’s history. The arrival of the Queen’s Baton back into Glasgow will be a special moment indeed and we are all looking forward to savouring the incredible atmosphere around this great city as the baton makes its journey to the Opening Ceremony on July 23.”
The ballot party events opened on Monday and will close on Sunday 22nd June, will offer up to 8,000 people each day the chance to try out sports, arts and dance activities along with entertainment.
