Commonwealth Games fever will now be hitting the local streets according to Car Hire Glasgow Airport now a shop has opened.
The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer has opened the first of over forty of its official merchandise stores. There were bosses of the Games and athletes on hand to cut the ribbon at the city’s Central Station shop.
Ty Speer, Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive, said “Central Station is one of Glasgow’s main commuter hubs with around 750,000 people passing through every week, making it the ideal place to showcase our range of Glasgow 2014 goods.”
The store would create new jobs as there will be several temporary posts created in the city handling the sale of merchandise. On hand at the opening of the outlet was weightlifter Peter Kirkbride, who won silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Michael Cavanagh, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, said “Team Scotland is anticipating massive levels of home support at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. What better way for the whole of Scotland to get behind the team, show their support and play their part in the team’s success than wearing our traditional team colours and bearing our distinctive logo.”
