With all the hype for the Commonwealth Games, Car Hire Glasgow Airport are unhappy for the residents living close to the Games in the city, as they need to find alternative places to park their vehicles.
Residents in Glasgow living near the Commonwealth Games site have been told to move their cars or they will not be returned until September. People were awakened at 8.40am and informed access to there street in the Dalmarnock area was being blocked off for the next ten weeks.
It is believed workmen knocked on doors and said, “Don’t shoot the messenger but if you don’t move your car right now then you won’t get it back until after the games.”
More areas in the East of the city are expected to get the same call, as they back onto the catering facility for the athletes and workers during the Games.
Resident Linda Donnelly, 50, said “We welcome the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow and think it will be great for the city. However, we wish the planners actually gave some consideration to the residents who stay here. We have all been inconvenienced for the past five years while this has all been getting planned and built around us. Ages ago, we all applied for permits which would allow us to park at least close by but we have heard nothing else since. They are also going to be closing Dalmarnock Road, so we could face having to park miles away, which will surely have an impact on our car insurance.”
