Glasgow Stadium facing competition to be a Euro 2020 Venue

Car Hire Glasgow Airport think it would be great to have some of  the European Championship matches held in the city.

If Hampden Park in Glasgow is to be used as a venue for Euro 2020 then it will have to see off competition from the other Home Nations, according to the view of Scottish Football Association head Stewart Regan. There is the potential of thirty cities including London, Cardiff and Dublin wanting to host matches.

Regan said, “It’s highly unlikely that there will be four winning bids from the United Kingdom and Ireland. So our job is to try and convince UEFA that Glasgow is one of the preferred options for that zone, if you like. What we are keen to do is showcase football in Scotland being played at the highest levels”

The Scottish Football Association will be submitting its case to hold three group games and a round of sixteen tie for the twenty-four team tournament. The UEFA executive committee will meet in September to determine the thirteen host cities.

Campbell Ogilvie, the SFA president said, “The national stadium has played host to some of the greatest players and greatest games of all-time. Indeed, Scottish football and Hampden Park are synonymous with excellence on the European stage. I am sure the whole country – and indeed football fans across Europe – would be thrilled by the prospect of the Hampden Roar providing its unique soundtrack to the European Championships in 2020.”
