Half marathon returning to Luton in October

The upcoming half marathon is in the diary of the staff at Car Hire Luton Airport making car hire customers aware not to travel around the city that day.

The countdown has started for the Love Luton half marathon, which is just twenty-six days away. It takes place on a route around town on Sunday 26th October, beginning in StockwoodPark and ending by the Town Hall.

A spokeswoman for Love Luton said “At the start, the entire course will be closed. The half marathon begins at 10am and runners will have a maximum of three hours to finish. A fully qualified and experienced convoy will follow the race and will lift the road closures as soon as it is safe to do so, allowing traffic to flow as normal. All road closures will be lifted by no later than 1:30pm. We appreciate that shutting the roads may slightly impact on motorists, but safety is paramount and we ask that residents come out and support runners as they travel past.”

Stopsley Striders, a local running group, will be helping to ensure the half marathon runs smoothly by marshalling at the event.

A spokesperson from the club said “We were pleased to be asked by Love Luton to contribute to the delivery of the half marathon event. As organisers of the Luton Marathon for many years, the event became unsustainable as we had safety concerns with the increased volume of traffic on the course.”

The event will be fully marshalled throughout with St. John’s Ambulance located throughout the course.
