The Car Hire Stansted Airport team are looking forward to the opening of the new high class hotel.
A hotel is to be built on Stansted Airport staff car park after the green light was given by the district planning committee. It is part of the owner Manchester Airport Group’s (MAG) plans for growth to 35 million passengers a year.
A MAG Property spokesperson said “We welcome the council’s decision to approve planning permission for a circa 330 bed hotel at London Stansted Airport. Not only will the hotel improve facilities at the UK’s fourth biggest airport, but it will also create employment in the local area. We will continue to work with all stakeholders from within the community to ensure the process is as smooth as possible.”
Uttlesford District Council’s (UDC) planning committee voted to approve the 329-bedroom facility on land next to Enterprise House, currently used as a staff car park. Despite concerns over a potential security risk surrounding the tall building and a lack of parking spaces, councillors unanimously backed the application.
A lift and walkway would link the hotel users to the main terminal and 170 car parking spaces would be provided for the site. Nearly 330 current car parking spaces for staff would be lost at the site – but an extra 381 spaces would be provided further away. A restaurant and a small gym are included in the plans for the hotel, which would be accessed from Bassingbourn Road.
Councillor Christina Cant highlighted the potential security risk around the tall building. She said “It does seem to me that when I looked at airport security it said bird risk considered but it wasn’t really bird risk I was thinking about, considering the present problems in the Middle East.”
