Liverpool is a city that has a rich musical heritage, with iconic groups such as Echo and the Bunnymen, the La’s and Gerry and the Pacemakers all hailing from the small city on the banks of the River Mersey. But the most famous band of all to emerge from the city is of course, The Beatles. The Beatles are synonymous with the city of Liverpool, attracting hundreds of thousands of international tourists each year, who flock to the city to take a stroll down the world famous Mathew Street, or hop on the Magical Mystery Tour bus to spot the sights associated with Liverpool’s famous sons.
Each August, Beatlemania grips the city as music fans head out in their droves to celebrate International Beatle Week. This seven day celebration of everything ‘Beatles’, includes some of the best live musical acts from over 20 countries worldwide. There are also exhibitions, sightseeing tours, video shows, memorabilia shows and guest speakers, spread across the festival site.
This year’s festival takes place from 26 August to 1 September and is organised by Liverpool’s leading tour operator Cavern City Tours. The festival’s line up is tipped to be the best yet, with the iconic legend Donovan making an appearance to celebrate 50 years in the music business. There will also be performances by Peter Asher, Bob Gruen, Neil Innes and George Harrison’s ex wife Patti Boyd, who will be exhibiting her photography.
The week-long festival showcases some of the city’s iconic and interesting spaces, including the Bombed Out Church, Alma de Cuba, and of course the infamous Cavern Pub and Cavern Club.
Tickets for the festival can be found online, and can be purchased for individual events or as a package.
