Iron Maiden Frontman plans to fly Jumbo Jet into East Midlands Airport

In true rock star fashion Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is going to fly the band into East Midlands Airport himself, when they visit for the Download Festival in June 2016. Dickinson, who was born locally in Worksop, will be headlining with the band at Download and always likes to arrive in style.

A trained and experienced pilot, Dickinson will be flying the huge Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet, known as ‘Ed Force One’ into East Midlands Airport just in time for their headline slot at the festival, which also takes place nearby in Castle Donington. Previously the band had used a Boeing 757 but their new jet is double the size and three times heavier than their former set of wings.

Iron Maiden have headlines Download six times but as Dickinson told the BBC himself, this is the first time he’s had the opportunity to fly Ed Force One and land it so close to the site of the festival. Iron Maiden will also be taking Ed Force One on their Book of Souls Tour, which includes landing the plane in 35 countries around the world including Canada, Argentina, Mexico and Japan.

Although the band are well-known at Download it will add even more excitement that their fully decorated super-size plane will be landing just down the road at East Midlands Airport and fans may even get the opportunity to catch sight of the plane if they’re very lucky.
