Head to Leeds this summer and experience the Leeds West Indian Carnival 2015, Europe’s longest running authentic Caribbean carnival parade. Taking place on Monday 31st August in Potternewton Park, the carnival has been a key feature in the Leeds event calendar since its inception in the 1960s as one man’s remedy for homesickness for his native West Indies.
Now an annual event, thousands of visitors flock to the city each year to witness the colourful carnival in all of its glory. Expect a stunning display of costumes and tropical rhythms, as the carnival takes over Leeds City Centre for one day only and guests can follow the parade as it shimmies its way through the city streets.
There will also be plenty of locally sourced and Caribbean food and drink available from street vendors during the day, and there will be a variety of entertainment scattered across the city.
Take part in one of the carnival workshops or masterclasses, where you can learn all about the carnival art forms. The carnival also works closely with local schools, colleges, community organisations and companies, to bring visitors the best event possible.
Only a 20 minute drive in your Easirent hire car from our depot at Leeds Bradford Airport, make sure to arrive early to the event to avoid disappointment, as this popular event gets busy pretty quickly. Why don’t you make a weekend of it and stay in one of our Top 10 Hotels in the city?
