Now the days are so much shorter there is plenty of time to spend marvelling at the illuminations and light displays that come with the festive season and at the Salford Quays there is a dedicated interactive light show, featuring many different elements to get involved with and marvel at. Lightwaves at Salford Quays is taking place from 12th until 27th December and includes three major installations as well as a range of pop up performances, artwork workshops and artist talks. It is an entirely free event and conveniently located not far from the centre of Manchester, a mere 10-15 minute drive in your Easirent hire car from Manchester airport.
Lightwaves 2015 is bigger than ever before and brings in international artists. The first installation is at the Lowry Plaza and is an interactive artwork that lights up as the crowds move. Entitled the Cathedral of Mirrors and created by Mads Christensen it was commissioned by Quays Culture and co-presented by the University of Salford. The second installation is right in the heart of MediaCityUK, and is a huge and illuminated psychedelic maze. Entitled AMAZE it is possible to explore at your leisure with magical surprises to look out for along the way. The final installation is the huge and immediately striking Intrude. This art installation is made up of over-sized luminous rabbits who both grab your attention and look fantastic. Intrude is also bound to be popular with younger visitors to the attractions.
Lightwaves 2015 is the second commission of its kind the area, following on from the 2014 Aeolian Light which toured around the world after its success in Salford.
