Car Hire Liverpool Airport staff consider it a great achievement to be in the top five of tourist destinations in the UK.
The Travellers’ Choice awards have put Liverpool as the fourth best destination for tourists according to TripAdvisor with London, Edinburgh and Torquay as the top three.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson hailed the result but vowed to fight for second place in next year’s list. He said, “Tourism is a top priority for us. We are very ambitious and very bold. It is clear we are doing things right and promoting our city in all the best ways. Liverpool is rightly in fourth position but that will not stop us pushing even further. Next year, I’d like to see us one behind the capital.”
These awards are handed to those cities and towns with the best visitor ratings. TripAdvisor spokesman James Kay said, “These awards are based on millions of reviews and ratings by those that really matter – travellers themselves.”
Liverpool is set for a huge year for tourists with a number of major public events. The Giants return to the city and the Liverpool International Music Festival will be amongst the big pulls to the city for 2014.
Mayor Anderson added “Tourism is rocket fuel for the city in terms of jobs and growth. We have a plan within 10 years to get 100,000 visitors a year coming to Liverpool via cruise liners. We have a very impressive programme of events in Liverpool this year and next year, with more surprises due to be announced.”
