Car Hire Liverpool Airport are pleased to find out that a favoured musical is returning to the city in a different form next year.
The musical ‘Twopence to Cross the Mersey’ by Helen Forrester is going to return to Liverpool stage as a play. The much loved creation has been seen by thousands of people at the Empire over the years, is being backed in its new form by producers. It will run from March 10th– 21st 2015.
It will receive its premiere at the Epstein Theatre in Hanover Street next year, with tickets now on sale. The show tells the story of a young girl and her family who move from the South of England and a former wealthy lifestyle due to the Great Depression of the 1930’s, up to Liverpool to start again and rebuild dreams and fortune.
Producer and stage writer Rob Fennah said “Over the years I discovered not all Helen Forrester’s readers were fans of musical theatre, and so decided to adapt Twopence To Cross The Mersey into a straight stage play. This production will be a much more intimate affair and, as such, the Epstein Theatre is the perfect venue to launch this new show. I got to know Helen very well during the last 20 years of her life and, during the writing of the original script, she would often send faxes and letters of encouragement together with all sorts of additional information that didn’t appear in her books. I’m so glad she got the chance to see it and I was delighted when she gave it her full backing.”
