This could be a massive meeting according to the staff at the Easirent Gatwick Airport Car Hire branch, with it being such a crucial issue for so many people.
There is expected to be a packed open public meeting later in July with the Gatwick Airport second runway proposals as the hot topic. Horley Town Council will be holding the meeting on 18th July in St Wilfred’s Church hall starting at 7.30pm, with the runway issue the single most important issue facing the area.
There will be three speakers Alastair McDermid, the Airports Commission director for Gatwick, Peter Barclay of the Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign and a representative of the Gatwick Diamond Business forum. After the main speakers present, the meeting will split into smaller groups to look at more specific areas and focus on residents’ concerns. Once this is complete then the residents will get the chance to put questions to the meeting.
Town councillor Mike George is the main organiser of the event, said he hoped it would be the biggest open public debate in the council’s history. Meaning if more people attend than is possible, then a second meeting may have to be held.
Councillor George said “I would say it’s the major issue facing the town. The main thrust of the meeting is to hear what the residents’ views are. The public meeting is not the be-all and end-all. It’s part of a process.”
