London Luton Airport has reported record growth of 16% in the month of July, compared to the same period last year. July 2015 saw 1.3 million passengers travel through the airport marking 16 months of consecutive growth.
As well as achieving record growth rates, London Luton Airport has confirmed that there will be 19 new routes launching in 2015. Continued passenger growth is expected at London Luton Airport as the airport sets its £100 million investment in motion which will increase the airport’s annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers by 2026. There will also be major upgrades to the airport’s facilities, with a complete redesign of the airport terminal in the pipeline, which will see a doubling of existing retail space and he development of a new world class executive lounge. Transport links are also set to be improved with better road access from the M1 planned, a new car parking facility and a remodelled bus and coach interchange being put in place.
Nick Barton, CEO of London Luton Airport, commented on the airport’s redevelopment:
“We are on track for a record-breaking summer. The continuing growth in passenger numbers makes our £100 million redevelopment project essential to the role LLA plays in easing capacity issues in the South East of England.”
