This is the sort of news that manager Zona at Car Hire Luton Airport wants to be aware of, as more flights means more passengers, resulting in more car hire bookings for the branch.
August was the busiest month on record for Luton Airport leaving many of the other UK airports behind. This puts the airport on track to have its busiest year in its 76-year history.
Clive Condie, Executive Chairman of London Luton Airport Operations Limited, said “Interest in London Luton from leisure and business passengers has never been higher. This is a great platform from which to launch our ambitious redevelopment programme and enable London Luton to become a leading airport serving London, Luton and surrounding regions.”
The increase is being driven by new routes and carriers and a new 10-year deal with easyJet announced in March which will see the airline grow capacity at London Luton by 20 per cent over the next year.
Also, the £100 million redevelopment of the airport, approved in July, will see the airport increase its annual passenger capacity by around a third to 18 million. The redevelopment is also expected to increase the airport’s annual economic impact by £283 million to around £1.2 billion, and create over 5,000 new jobs.
