Luton half marathon will mean road closures this Sunday

It will be important for Car Hire Luton Airport staff to be aware of these closures to pass on to any car hire customers this Sunday.

It will be the second Love Luton half-marathon on Sunday 26th October, with many roads being closed for a portion or the whole duration of the race.

Beginning at Stockwood Park athletics track at 10am, the course takes runners through the Luton Hoo estate and back onto the roads of Luton, and residents are encouraged to show their support. The road closures cover the period from 7am until 7pm, and are anticipated to actually be in place from 9.30am until around 1.30pm.

Linsey Frostick, chair of Love Luton, said “Runners have a maximum of three hours to complete the event, and the road closures will be lifted by an experienced convoy of marshals following immediately behind the race. Having a traffic-free and safe course for runners allows the town to develop a prestigious event which can showcase Luton in a positive light. We do appreciate that shutting the roads impacts on motorists. We thank everyone for their understanding, apologise for any inconvenience caused, and hope that residents come out and support runners as they go past.”

During this time the roads to be closed for the duration of the event, except for an emergency will be, the whole lengths of Barnfield Avenue, Bridge Street, Bushmead Road, Cutenhoe Road, George Street, Gleneagles Drive, Hancock Drive, Hawkfields, Kingsdown Avenue, Old Bedford Road, Osborne Road, Park Street and Ringwood Road.

Plus there will be closures of sections of, Cromer Way: from its junction with Old Bedford Road to its junction with Lorimer Close, Guildford Street: from its junction with Bridge Street to its junction with Old Bedford Road, London Road: from its junction with Tennyson Road to its junction with Ludlow Avenue, Manchester Street: from its junction with Gordon Street to its junction with George Street, Stockingstone Road: from its junction with Manton Drive to its junction with Wychwood Avenue.
