The Car Hire Manchester Airport team are pleased with the news that the airport is continuing a trend of increased passenger numbers on a month to month basis.
Passenger numbers increased again at Manchester Airport in January 2014, going up 4.3% on the same time the year before. This means a twentieth consecutive month of year on year growth for the airport. The increase was due to people wanting to get away for a post Christmas break to the ski slopes or for some winter sun.
Ken O’Toole, Chief Commercial Officer for MAG, owners of Manchester Airport, said, “January is usually a quieter month following the busy Christmas period however the increase in passenger numbers this January highlights that more people have opted to take a post-Christmas break. Popular routes during the month included favourites like Dubai, Alicante and Tenerife as people sought out some sun after poor weather in the UK, as well as the return of the Winter Olympics seeing the rise of ski traffic, with Geneva topping the most popular winter destination list.”
There are new long haul routes taking off this year, including Charlotte in North Carolina, America and Toronto in Canada. Ryanair will also be adding four new routes from Manchester including Bologna, plus adding more flights to the five already existing routes. Jet2.com, Thomson and Thomas Cook will be adding extra destinations to their respective flight packages, to depart from ManchesterAirport.
